Garden Room Restoration

This project was a really special one for us here at GjB Joinery! We were contacted by a client who owns a large Victorian house based in Leeds which had an original garden room. All the houses on this street were built with these garden rooms however only a couple remain, in various states of rot and disrepair. Our client requested for her garden room to be restored as sympathetically as possible using as much of the original wood as we could. The main issue we found was that much of the wood was beyond repair. Because of this only 8 panels of wood could be salvaged, however these were rotten half way up so still required a bit of work. To bring this piece of history back to its former glory we had to rebuild the roof (without ever seeing the complete original), created new doors, windows and floor. All of this was built off site in kit form in our workshop then stained and weather protected to feign the aged wood. This was then transported to the site and built there. This project was a unique, rare and extremely rewarding project which helped bring a little slice of history back to our local area.

Bannisters

This job was completed for an Edwardian property in Baildon. We were required to create and fit a bannister for the cellar conversion which had only previously had a wall attached hand rail. The hand rail, base rail, newl and newl cap was made from oak and the spindles from primed soft wood.

Windows

This window was a commission for a period property in Esholt. We were asked to replace the rotten window like for like but to include double glazing and weather seals. This window had to be in exact replica as the property was located in a conservation area.

floor restoration

Recently GB Joinery took a job in an early Victorian living room extension in a late Georgian house. The aim of this project was to replace the original floor, which was in a state of disrepair with no insulation, saving as much of the flooring as possible. These floorboards were integrated into bespoke floorboards made by us. These new boards could not be bought off the shelf as they were 12 inches wide. This job was quite difficult as the team had to complete their tasks without damaging any of the original room or removing any skirting. Despite this, the job was finished to a high standard and helped restore a beautiful floor.

The image shows a room with half of its flooring missing, in its place is wooden slats.

New flooring

GB Joinery were tasked by a local bowling club to create a new floor. This club had two full sized snooker tables situated in a recess in the ground, resulting in a step down towards the tables. This was causing issues and so we brought the floor level. To do this we reinforced the new floor to the subfloor underneath so the weight of the two tables was transformed to the hard ground. The bowling club were delighted with our work and how little disruption we caused during our time there.

wardrobes

GB Joinery can fit a wide variety of wardrobes ranging from these Edwardian style fitted wardrobes for a period property bedroom, to modern seamless wardrobes with no handles and push to open mechanisms. All our wardrobes have plenty of functional space inside and aim to be a practical but aesthetically pleasing addition to any room. We work with our customers to create pieces they will love and fit with their decor and property.

shutters

These two sets of bespoke window shutters were made for a dining room in a local country house. They add a sense of grandeur whilst retaining a hint of Georgian charm from the fielded panels used in the design.

Range of restorations

At GB Joinery we thoroughly enjoy restoring peices, giving them a new lease of life for the owners. One such project we completed was this late 1920s gramophone. We created a new bespoke leg in our purpose built workshop to create a seamless and integrated repair.
